We have a fairly relaxed attitude to the planting in the borders - if it fits, it stays. Only if a plant threatens to smother everything else, or the colour is just too harsh to blend with the rest of the planting do they get the "heave-ho".
There is one person whose gardening philosophy has influenced me more than anyone else. Beth Chatto's garden is just wonderful, never disappointing whatever time of the year I visit. If you're in East Anglia you simply have to go there!
