This grass snake didn't like being photographed and kept turning its head to follow my every move. It was quite a nice size. Not poisonous but could give a nasty bit, I suspect.
Flowerpot  Was it in your garden?

Our Spring Garden  ......and very wary of me. Every time I moved so did the snake. Kept me in striking distance as a warning. Saw one once in our pond!

Our Spring Garden  It's a grass snake, blackbird's Paradise, otherwise I would not have been so close to it!

Blackbird's paradise  That's an Adder for sure, shortish (compared to Grass nake), mean looking, no yellow ring behind the neck and the zig zag markings all the way to the tip of the tail. Lovely specimen and great photo. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CAcQjRxqFQoTCNvnnPio9sYCFcqc2wodyzkJBA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwakefieldnaturalists.org%2F%3Fattachment_id%3D1100&ei=-YWzVZuHEsq57gbL86Qg&bvm=bv.98717601,d.d24&psig=AFQjCNEvbZpeLwFGcYFFralgUnhwGH0tMg&ust=1437914963524712
